In addition if you're giving out your IP that's your fault We're forced to so that you can connect to the server... there's no reason you should give another user your IP.

People were abusing old version of skype and other various ways of obtaining peoples IP's, it's not like they were handing it out, i'm sure a portion of the population wouldn't even know their own IP let alone give it out.

I haven't had any problems in UO that i know of, or any game for that matter, but in high level WOW (at least back when it was more popular) arenas and in League it was a huge issue, and i was referring to the individuals getting attacked not the servers. Mitigating attacks on a game server are much harder because you are a bigger target, IP is freely available and there could be multiple people working against you, rare is it a single user is going to piss off a large enough group to be hounded into oblivion. When i was getting into pen testing there was all kinds of things even a single user could do, shutting down a website or server is much harder for a single user than a single person is. Especially when you consider most peoples home networks are still just out of the box, with default passwords intact and all. I kind of petered out in that direction because i dislike code/coding and my kali linux laptop got murdered by my children. Plus i was only testing my own network / virtual set up shit so it wasn't really anything to exciting. My ISP didn't seem to give a shit what i did tho. But plenty of people could still be using backdoor 5 (surprisingly not just a porno) or hping or some shit like that.

With that being said, i don't see some sort of weird epidemic of it on the game, in fact i'm sure 75%(maybe more) of the time someone was "ddoss'd" it really was something else entirely. I only say this because getting caught fucking with peoples connections can yield legal troubles, and i don't know of a video game that i'd be willing to get some heat over.

I always have brought some life into this server I've brought back action several times and when i quit and come back it's dead again. If there really are good alternatives to skype, teamspeak, ventrillo ect that don't reveal your IP to others, I'm all for switching up my programs. Maybe someone should make some thread advertising these programs and maybe even start adding their contact info to these programs in their signatures.

I think Ryan is just being a hardass. It's up to the individual to make sure that they are not vulnerable. Kinda like how scamming is legal here in game. That said, there was a thread I think called Common Scams and Rip Offs, or something like that. We should probably start a thread that would educate people on how to defend themselves against IP based attacks.

I dont know what you want me to do? Can you actually PROVE someone ddos'ed you? I mean for the love of god there has to be some kind of standard of proof. If you want to play internet games, don't add stranger fucks to your skype, dont use apps that share your IP, dont connect to something on someone's PC etc...

Also watch what clients you get from whom, even if its just something as simple as a tree hack, pretty easy to take a legit thing and interject a few extra lines of code for key loggers etc.

You should only use clients from reputable sources (the creators) - IE: I would never use a hacked version of Sallos (be it from another shard or player) to play the game... people will hack you, period. There are some bad fuckers on the internet.
