So you're saying that they should use the same operating system as the client (Windows) because that way you can run a server and login to it from the same machine?
That's really nonsensical. A server serves. There's no reason for a client to ever run on the server.
Now you might argue that RunUO is also a hobbiest's tool for messing around with private shards. In that light, RunUO on Windows is a wonderful thing. But you see, it's easy to port software from Linux to Windows. The other way around gets messy when you start using proprietary stuff like .NET.

if you feel linux is superior, by all means, make your own emulator and prove them wrong if it does work better!
Linux is superior. Just because the server daemons (the term is NOT emulator!) written for unix systems haven't been as complete a project as RunUO means nothing. Ryan et al have spent incredible amounts of time working on RunUO, Zippy on Razor, and so on. They have done a fantastic job. The only bad thing about it IMHO is their proprietary MS basis. I think it would be that much better with an open standards basis.
My criticism is not to say that RunUO isn't the best. Because it really is. I'm simply stating that Windows as a server is a poor choice. History has shown us this time and time again. I also concede to the fact that it isn't my choice to make. I'm simply expressing a viewpoint. Giving feedback. That sort of thing.
As for writing my own, or working on an existing project, I really don't care enough. As you said, RunUO works. I believe the admins and programmers here are more than competent enough to make an MS server work. Many people use MS as a server. It isn't the best choice, but it can be made to work, sure. I have my own projects to work on. I've got no interest development of player run UO or acquiring staff positions or power. I come here to play, to support the community, and to be helpful. A regular member of the community. I PVM, PVP, and interact with people. It's fun.
