And here my poem in its original version (the last line
later was changed into "true hearts are long since cold", but I like
this one better), which seems not to have been valentine's favor
Valentine lost
Thus spoke the winds in sizzling chills of love that would be found --
knows limit not, nor bound.
A righteous virtue shapes our world,
no need for blade and bolt.
Thus muttered earth its tow'ring words of truth all pure and sound --
ascending from the ground.
A lawful value renders us
disdaining greed and gold.
"Upon those two gleam justice's sprouts"
that was what once thou toldst;
but, pardon me, them vicious lies
and fairy tales grow old.
Remains but, encompassing all
a crack, a void, a blink --
where clammy silence hurts and shouts
my heart is long since cold.
