The Wolf clan History
This is where it began!
Wolf Clan
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Wolf Clan is one of three family sub-groups of a tribal people called the Chipewyan. The other two families are the Spider Clan and the Bear Clan, each with their own distinct cultural characteristics. There is another tribe that constitutes a traditional enemy called Koyukon who take evil creatures as totems.
The story of the origin of the three clans; as spoken by White Wolf.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
When the Chipewyan People began to emerge from the First World they started to hunt the sunrise. The first band encountered a Bear killing a Great Hart, so they became the Bear Clan. The second group came across the kill and saw the Bear driven off by a pack of wolves, so they became the Wolf Clan. The remaining Chipewyan, who traveled much more slowly came upon the remains of the deer carcass and found a nest of spiders in it. They became the Spider Clan and it brought them much fortune.
By taking the animal totem of the spider they were granted protection by the wise and powerful, Spider Mother Spirit(Na ashjeii Asdzaa). To help them on their journey, she took the bone and ash from their cremated dead and fashioned the first horses to carry heavy loads and for riding.
The Bear Clan, which arrived first and established a village, remains to this day a powerful group. The Wolf Clan was never the strongest or the most prosperous, but because of the aspect of the wolf they live and hunt together in harmony and are able to communicate with each other over vast distances. Finally; although the Spider Clan was the last to arrive, it became the biggest Chipewyan clan because of the large number of children its ancestors brought with them on their journey.
Story Synopsis
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The beginning of the strife:
The native peoples are under extreme pressure from territorial expansion of an invading, Medieval Anglo-Centric culture that is referred to in aggregate by the Chipewyan as White-Eyes (derogatory). The Wolf Clan had been pushed from their ancestral hunting grounds centuries ago and retreated into the remotest wooded areas. In his lifetime Naga Wolf has seen many new horrors as there seems to be a strong upsurgeance in the appearance of armed bands of White-Eyes that hunt and kill his people where ever they go.
Naga, being an Elder of the home camp is the nucleus of and Chieftain to a new Wolf Clan in exile. The reason Naga and many others left the home camp is because of internal conflict over wither and how to make war on the White-Eyes in retaliation. The key supporter for war was Two Wolves, then tribal war leader and son of Elder Naga Wolf.
Two Wolves left on his own to try to find a way of using magical creatures to destroy the Cities of the White-Eyes, in particular Britain because it sits on sacred ancestral hunting grounds, according to legend.
Later Two Wolves was saved by (the enigmatic time mage) Kefka and now owes him his life and loyalty. Two Wolves abandoned his quest and joined the Oakford Guild, because Kefka is a servant of Sgt. Griffen (mayor of Oakford) and Two Wolves considers himself a servant of Kefka as long as he owes him his blood debt. Kefka, in exchange helped negotiate the inclusion of the Wolf Clan settlement and funding for the construction of the Longhouse. Two Wolves is slowly becoming anglicized, abandoning traditions, living among the White-Eyes yet still claims the title of war leader.
Naga, being against war; left the home camp in turmoil to seek Two Wolves to try to save his life, figuring that such beasts would probably kill Two Wolves well before he gained mastery over them – making it a suicide mission. Two Wolves found Naga first after the qreamquest was broken and Naga Wolf agreed to settle in Oakford.
A twist of fate has led this tribal elder in exile to establish a new clan settlement. Oddly he has chosen to settle in the midst of the White-Eyes, descendents of those who pushed his people from their ancestral lands and drive them into the earth. The Shire of Oakford now has an uneasy truce with its new guests based on a treaty of mutual protection and trade. Two Wolves may have abandoned his suicidal quest, but is still estranged for his father because of the split it has made in the family.
The so named Shire of Oakford that started as a frontier settlement grows rapidly into an outpost for commerce and develops into a thriving town. The Wolf Clan prospers alongside. Many of the famous and powerful members of the home camp make the journey to join the exiles. Miraculously, many other long lost Wolf family members start to appear as each individual has survived to reach this home away from home under their own unique and extraordinary circumstances.
Things were never ideal as Oakford is constantly plagued by night-time raiders and roaming murderers, being outside the protection of Lord British’s guarded zones; as the town of Oakford grows so does the level of organization of its attackers. By the time full scale war is again upon them, Sgt. Griffen has no need to remind Naga Wolf of their treaties as the moment arrives to call on Wolf fighters and hunters to help reinforce the town militia.
The forces of the enemy hauntâ are eventually destroyed, but at a very high cost. The town and the Wolf lodge are in cinders. Many of the fallen Braves could not be revived even by the strongest medicine. The last few remnants cut their hair and howl mournfully at the funeral piers.
While the women pick though the smoldering debris to scavenge what they can before the weather changes cold, Naga sets out again. After traveling far past the edges of the known world, he encounters something unexpected.
