Look in the "Player Guides" forum, Sunfire has a pretty good starter guide on making gold.

Because he's a mapmaker... Why would he buy already made maps from you if he could make them himself at a much lower cost? Besides, it prevents players from sitting in a shop all day long macroing up items to sell for gold.
Try checking out the aforementioned forum, it's rather handy. Gold really isn't that hard to get here, just takes a little patience and an attention span longer than that of a 9yr old
