Once long ago.
It is late mid summers eve Moon Wolf sits in front of the river near her village listening to the sound of the raging waters. She watches the sun set as she waits in anticipation for the man she loves and the other to come back from the hunt. They will be joined for the rest of their lives in the joining ritual on the following night. She hears the rumbling of the approaching horses Moon Wolf “they have returned”. As they approach she realizes it is not her love, but five white eyes. One of the white eyes “What’s this, a young Indian girl ripe for the picking. They jump off their horses and grab her by her arms. They rip off her clothes and throw her to the ground. Its been over an hour as the last white eye has his way with her. They jump back on their horses and ride into the distance as Moon Wolf lies on the ground in disgrace.
Moon Wolf in shame never spoke of this day. Nine cycles of the mid night moon has passed and a child is born (Night Wolf). Her assumed father never questioned the lightness of her skin. He was proud of his baby girl.
To be continued………
