How can it be that my truck is lighter when empty than when it is carring a load?

Re: Try and answer this Question

You don't understand how an empty truck can weigh less than a full one? Have you ever heard of the concept of gravitational pull as it relates to mass? Also curious... what does the number of wheels on a truck have to do with the GVW? GVWR, yes, but this is a little confusing. Perhaps this was a riddle but typed improperly?
Such as: Your truck is lighter carrying a load than when empty, in which case you'd be full of gaseous helium or hydrogen.

Re: Try and answer this Question

I honestly think it was meant to be a riddle, and she messed up the sentence.

I'm going to assume it was something like:

"How can my truck be lighter when carrying a load, then it is when it's empty?"

It depends really on where you are weighing it, if you weight it on the two front wheels the mass in the back would counter weight it and make it weight less than it actually does weight, with an empy load the center of gravity is near the middle of the car making the car distribute more weight on the front, equalizing the front and the back.

Diagram.

* represents center of gravity
- represents the truck

With an empty load
Front -----*----- Back

with a full load

Front --------*-- Back

Weighing a truck improperly doesn't change its mass. It only borks the truth of it. It's not a question of balance or fulcrum points. In fact, the entire discussion is pretty much moot unless lady Vex actually responds to this post to clear things up a bit.

Yes this is correct, Thanks Paragon...............

Your load is of a lighter than air gas. The gas is not in a liquid form and not stored in rupture resistant cylinders. What you are carrying is helium filled balloons.

Since I pointed out that this may have been a riddle before paragon did, I feel a bit slighted, but that's nothing new to me. I also answered it, but apparently my answer was incorrect.

New guess: Your truck is loaded with a luminescent substance, thereby making it "lighter". Or your load caught fire.

Taking in to thought, the correct riddle, would that be 'load' or 'lode'?
