It's actually a pretty simple concept. Here's how it works: *
- Winning while outnumbered by your opponent means a lot. In a good way.
- Losing while outnumbered by your opponent means nothing.
- Winning while evenly matching your opponent means a little.
- Losing while evenly matching your opponent means a little.
- Winning while outnumbering your opponent means nothing.
- Losing while outnumbering your opponent means a lot. In a bad way.
This concept is called 'odds,' and it allows rage to brag about winning outnumbered fights, or dismiss ones that they lose. This means fighting outnumbered is a Good Thing (tm). If you win: great. If you lose: no big deal.
Now, there's also something to be said for equivalency. It is commonly accepted that most** rage members are quite a bit more able than, for example, E., the Gilmore Girls***, or DOOM****. Consequently, a fight that would otherwise be considered--say, a 3v3--may actually be considered in Rage's favor. The oft-encountered situation of, say, 5 rage vs 7 E., however, may be considered an even fight.
* Originally, I intended only to post the first two, and let the rest be inferred. Upon reflection, however, I realized that inference is an ability that not everyone reading this may have.
** The word
most is used because Choru is an exception to this rule
***
Gilmore Girls is a term widely used when referring to the >!< guild.
****
DOOM is the current abbreviation. I vaguely recall that there are previous incarnations of this guild, and if you are reading this post more than two weeks after time-of-writing, there is a good chance it will have changed again. I would post a list of previous names for reference, but this guild has never left a lasting impression.
