If there is trillion of cash, the items may claim to worth a billion and they *may* find their buyers. If there is only billion of cash, the items may still claim to worth a billion but no one can afford to pay. The item price will drop and the *wealth* will be shrinked. The bubble is broken and the market will be adjusted. The true value of the items will be reflected eventually.

If the tax dry up certain percents of gold each week, after a while, certain amount of cash can be vaporized and the overall cash level of the commodity will be lowered.

To the poor, losing 2k out of their 200k per week is nothing harm to them. Just 1/4 farming trip can cover it.
To the rich, it is 2 billion out of their 200 billion, he needs to figure out a way to fill the leaking hole.

negative nancy, have you dropped your castle yet or you still seeking attention here?

rofl hop of my di*k troll. The fact that Ryan is not pulling the plug on Hybrid - I will not be dropping it until further notice. However, that does not mean that I will be actively playing Hybrid. Keep hatin tho ya jealous troll.. what do you have - a 7x7 out in the boondocks??

We're already working on revamping the donation store...

The current store is archaic and I've wanted it revamped for years. The gold on the store is a big problem... it needs to go away.

I am afraid to ask how much gold is outstanding in Hybrid's economy

It would be nice to see it go away on the store. This is only 1 major issue though that Hybrid has, there are a lot more that I hope you are aware of Ryan.

This would be pretty hard to implement. Many "wealthy" players don't actually have a lot of cash sitting in a bank. Most of the money is valued in items or houses.

completely agreed. Money doesnt necessarily accrue in value... Assets and liquid assets do ;)

That might work in a more fluid economy. The ultima online economy has lots of bumps and incongruities. There would always be tons of loopholes that would not be accounted for.

Then vote no and move on? jesus christ are all of you still kids ... you are acting like it. If you don't like an idea there is a button to click to vote no, I don't know why everyone at their age has to troll and insult stuff. At least I'm coming up with anidea for hybrid, rather it be good or bad it's for the player base to vote, but I haven't seen you contribute any ideas for this server.

If you cant handle peoples opinions, than you shouldn't make threads like this. Yeah people can "vote on the poll", but to not want people to voice their opinions in addition is just craaaazy.

My opinion is that - coming up with gold sinks right now is not as important as getting that gold off of the donation store. That has been destroying the economy since day 1 when it was put on there. As long as it is on there - no 'good gold sink ideas' will be able to compete with it. Hopefully ryan can get it removed ASAP.

I would prefer criticism rather than dead silence.

As much as I like this idea (the general idea of house upkeep/taxes) I don't believe it will work effectively.

Since one I.P. Address can have unlimited registered accounts, there are going to be players/guilds that have TONS of properties. Taxing Housing seems like a good idea, because it would force people who have lots of properties to either sell them, or pay a tax for hoarding properties. I am all for this idea. Perhaps on the house sign, if someone hasn't paid their property taxes, instead of the house collapsing, I say that the house is put up for auction, where players can place silent bids straight from the house sign, then after 24 hours, the highest bidder wins the property.

Any changes that would improve the housing situation would be a great thing! Taxing properties would discourage players from hoarding several properties.

Hell yea, lets tax everyone with a house. Great idea for a gold sink! Then we when the taxes aren't paid, the IDOC guilds can benefit off others misfortunes and become richer. It would then open up a bunch of land so that new houses can be placed and the cycle starts over again. Will there be audits on my tax return? Wait, there wouldn't be a return cause I would just be sinking gold I don't have into a house and not get any services out of it.. it would be sinking gold into the bottomless pit of the tax collectors and the IDOC guilds.

If the end goal is to get the economy more stable by removing tons of excess gold, then how about instead of a house tax.. we just delete all of the IDOC guild's accounts and houses. This would easily remove a few billion gold from the economy and make rares more rare as most of them would be deleted with the houses and accounts!! So as not to affect all those hard workers.. lets just say anyone that has over 10 mil will be removed. Man I have the best ideas....

Really, wtf are you guys thinking? A house tax.. jeezus that would almost instantly break the shard. Remove the gold from the donation store.. no one should be able to buy gold.. it only ruins the economy. Then after that is removed, add premium item vendors or something that you can buy items for big bucks (gold not rl $$) and constantly update the vendors so that the same items are not always readily available. Something like that gets players excited... instead downtrodden that they will only be poorer (and houseless to boot!).

On that note, what's this deal with vendor fees being taken out daily. It's way too easy avoiding the vendor fees, hell with rental contracts it tells you the exact minute you're gonna be charged.

What about a random timer (bad idea), an hourly fee (better idea), or how about a tax on items sold via vendors, like a percentage of the price *sales tax*(ding ding). This idea enables players to open true "vendor malls". Also items floating in the market acts as a pseudo-gold sink acting against inflation. wink wink nudge nudge.

Implementation: determine how much gold is taken off of vendors per day, apply tax at 1% and climb until # is close (My guess, a mere 1% will be higher than the vendor fees collected currently).

additional externalities.

- monopoly/oligopoly of massive handouts (great thing)
- increase in housing demand near moongates and guard zones
- power shift - taxing BUYER not SUPPLIER

sounds plausible.
