I have been talking to various players about the current Fishing situation.
It did occur to me this has been brought up befor, but still giving it another shot.
Eventhough there are many aspects of the game, with pvp being the greatest one on this server, there are quitte a few players dedicated to Fishing and Pirating/Sailing.
As for now, both Pirating and Fishing aren’t worth the trouble, seeing as there are little rewards and even fewer players out on the seas.

The current situation:
· With the Easy Skillgain there is no need for “Sea-Macro-ing” (8x8), thus keeping the seas for the bigger part under-used.
· So far few rewards as of to obtain by fishing, to name a few:
· Footwear and Normal Fishes.
· Prize Fish: Adds a temporary +5 to your Intelligence when eaten (no cooking needed).
· Wondrous Fish: Adds a temporary +5 to your Dexterity when eaten.
· Truly Rare Fish: Adds a temporary +5 to your Strength when eaten.
· Highly Peculiar Fish: Restores 10 points of stamina when eaten.
· Message in a Bottle: When used it will turn into a waterstained SOS
· a treasure chest recovered from a shipwreck: Using the waterstained SOS at the location mentioned on it will allow you to fish up a treasure chest recovered from a shipwreck. These chests are made of wood or metal and carry three different levels of treasure.
· Special Fishing Net: Can be found as loot on sea serpents or in fished up treasure chests. When used, the net appears to throw out many fishing lines and a set of nasty monsters will spawn, consisting of water elementals, sea serpents, deep sea serpents and a kraken. Comes in various colors. These seem to be quitte rare though.
· Current Sea spawns are non or verry few (I asumed fished up) and only around towns. This makes the sea look even more abbandoned.
· Only able to fish up a sea serpent and a deep sea serpent. Use nets for element and kraken. Those are only 4 monster types in an entire sea. So, lack of monsters to be fished up.
· Tests show that a Grandmaster Fisherman pulls up a special item (a net, a message in a bottle or a treasure map) about five times per hour. To reach that he has to fish non-stop, which means he has to cast about 280 times per hour.

All of these summed up do form one of the most entertaining skills around. But it could be alot better and truely worth it.

Comparing fishing to the current OSI:
They have all of the named above with extra!
One of the best being the Ancient SOS.

Ancient Chest

Fabled Fishing Net

Quote:
Using the Ancient SOS at the location mentioned on it will allow you to fish up a treasure chest recovered from a shipwreck, just like a normal SOS. These chests are colored white and carry treasure one level higher than the highest possible on a normal SOS.
Inside the fished up chest will also be a Fabled Fishing Net, which when used in deep water will summon a group of sea monsters, including the terrible Leviathan.
Possible changes or imput which will buff up Fishing (Which it needs badly) Ancient SOS
· Keep current items to be fished up.
· Add a few more items, including the Ancient's
· Add a few more monsters to be fished up.
· Enable Ancient SOS with Leviathan.
· Personally I’d like to see the 8x8 skill gain be implented, this will add up an enourmous amount of sea usage.
· Make Fishing harder to train/gain. One idea I was thinking of was by making Fishing at 65% only gain skill in Deepwaters (which are out of town guard limits.) The minimum required skill level to catch anything in deep water is 65. Decrease skillgain pace.

Afterall, myself and many others would like to see the Fishing skill being buffed up to it’s fully potential.
Make the skill worth training and the sea worth sailing again. I am in no way trying to gain personal economical improvement out of this or am I looking to change the servers current ways.

Please keep this thread constructive and I am more then happy to hear any suggestions.
Thanks,
Aveit.

Great post and idea.

I'd love for something like this to happen for when I'm waiting for vict...fishermen. ^^

Edit: I forgot to mention: Although I'd love to see 8x8 come back on my PIRATE, my other characters wouldn't be too fond of it and I highly doubt it will come back. Maybe make fishing harder, but on the serverlines make it a tad easier to gain? Then all the fishermen would go to the serverlines.

Re: Fishing - 01-10-2006, 10:17 AM

It is true that the seas are dead and abbandoned and all empty (except for the donation islands etc.) so i would really like to see things like the mentioned implemented. And a few others I will mention know and some more info to the mentioned :>

First to the things mentioned by Aveit:
The current fishing rewards could be worse.. and the seas could be even more boring.... but tbh the rewards are not really that good (except for the really rare and not very special: colored fishing nets).
As mentioned there are the treasure chests you can fish up, but those are only wooden and not metal ones as aveit mentioned. to add metal chests would be nothing hard i suppose and it would be an easy way to increase the need of fishing goods, since many ppl want some of those

The seas have NO SPAWN (i think all the monsters i saw on the sea... and that are like maybe 3 monsters in many many hours of fishing.. really many hours..) and that is a bit strange, just add a few spawns with a large spawn area of some Sea serpents, other monsters or at least something like dolphins.
But dont add big spawns on litle areas, but let the spawn range over a large area... the seas are large (and this way ppl wont camp spots on the sea to farm scales or whatever)

The ancient SoS... *hint* IMPLEMENT IMPLEMENT IMPLEMENT *hint* is just something that would put tons of more fun in the seas with the white chests, nets and SoS it could be used to deco or you could pull up leviathan and get the figth of your life
Allthough leviathans loot has to be changed since else he would drop semi-rares :> , instead add some nice items a fisher somehow may need.

With that i come to my own ideas:
Since mentioned last the loot of leviathan i got an idea for such an item, allthough it should still be no 100% drop:
"a legendary fishing-pole" adding to your fishing skill making it possible to fish up special new fishing items :O and those poles should come in different skill-levels (like +5 +10 +15 +20 the better the rarer)

I dont know about what items those should be yet but if this would really be thougth of to be implemented, there will sure be some ideas from me or fellow fishers
Those rare items shoudl work like that: You only have a chance to fish them up with a skill above 100 (or 105,110,115,120 for the even ultrae-uber-mega-rarer huehuehue *cough*) and of course with a veeeery low chance like 1% or better below (and far below for the better you know) making it possible to only get a maximum of 2 or 3 for the easier ones per hour.
The idea is a bit of a dream and maybe will never get even thougth of to implement, but i wont give up the hope

NEEEEXT!
When creating Trophys from a big fish the weigth of the fish is not shown...thats BS tbh so change it and make those fished mean something, i got tons lieing around somewhere and if the heavier would mean something i would throw away those that are not heavie enough for my needs and make the heavy ones to awesome trophys

Next:
Epic fish!
i dont heard much about them but they are ultra heavie and colored or something :>
Maybe as one of the +100skill fish/items

Next:
FISH TANKS!
you all know about them... Ryan wanted to add them ages ago i think...
GO GO ;/

Then again something more less realistic:
How about the possibility to change the style of your ship (maybe requiring different of the new items :>) to some other styles like a pirate ship or like a wiking ship (do we have a wiking rp guild or something? ;/)

So i know i forgot something that could be added but maybe ill post it later.. some of the mentioned things are pretty easy to implement and realistic and others are.. well they would require lots of work i think :>
At least implement some of them :p

SOOOOOO...... if there is nothing done im gonna ban you all from the forums *points at the staff*

I think this is an awesome idea.
I've seen a TON of spawn on the sea, I can post screen shots eventually... But they were all in one area and it seemed completely random to me.
Either way, I think it would be awesome to have more to find out there- and a hard battle to fight if I'm lucky enough to fish up the leviathan.
It could also open up another way to rp; since a ton of people love pirates and if there are more treasure hunters out there, there'll be more pirates. And it'd be easy to get a group going for it.
I hope the mods at least consider it, it has a ton of potential and would definately bring a lot more fun to the non-pvp parts of the shard.

agreed. There used to be metal chests on the shard but they got discontinued, infact I have one. But, atleast bring back metal chests! Great idea.

great ideas, one suggestion that i have is to raise the amount of stuff & the weight that a ship can hold.
