Galad's Next-to-Last ADVANCED thieving guide - 08-26-2008, 12:37 AM

I've hardly logged onto UO lately, been partying way too hard, and I figure, it's about time to give back. I'm the self-proclaimed best thief on the shard, and I've trained many other thieves in my art. It has been extremely fun, and I appreciate everyone who RP'ed with me, flamed me, griefed with me, griefed ME, and otherwise tried to make my life a living hell. It was a hell of a time. Now, for the best part.

F1 Steal Macro
F2 Last Target
F3 Last Object
F4 Useskill Hiding
F5 Useskill Anatomy
F6 Useskill Detecthidden
F7 Cast Spell Greater Heal

There you have it. That's the entire macro-set I use. No special programs, just razor, and that macro set. Now, for my tricks. Other thieves will look down on me for revealing them. But, there are so many trash thieves on the shard. At least I might be able to turn them into something.

FIRST OFF. (These percentages are based on my OPINION from stealing HUNDREDS of items)

Chance to (perfect steal)

1 Stone = 40%
2 Stone = 36%
3 Stone = 32%
4 Stone = 28%
5 Stone = 24%
6 Stone = 20%
7 Stone = 16%
8 Stone = 14%
9 Stone = 12%
10 Stone = 10%

For every person on screen, subtract -2%, to a MINIMUM of 5% chance to steal.

Now, for the tricks.

The RUNNING STEAL:
Open your targets Paperdoll from a distance. Double click their pack.
As you run beside them, hit your last object macro.
You can be as far as three tiles away without their pack closing.
They can move up to a screen away, it will stay open on your screen.
Simply hit last target, and then find the quickest escape route.
Be sure your 7+ tiles away from any NPC.

The BANK/BEETLE STEAL:
Have a bonded beetle, or be beside the bank.
Say bank before you make your steal, so your bank is open.
Steal the item, and bank it, without moving to ensure your bank stays open.
Alternatively, drop it in a beetle near NPCs.
(A herder may take full advantage of your beetle while your dead)

Those are the two types of steals covered. Now for the best cities.

Delucia - Many tamers visit, and also many others come to PvP. This is a great source of gold+ runic weps, as well as the occasional ancient runic hammer/runic hammer, tailor sandles, LOTS of BOD CLOTH, and little odds and ends. Many AFK people, so if non-blessed handout, GREAT place to steal. Beware town crier near tree, mages in shop, and two bankers inside.

Britain - By far the easiest place for the rares everyone wishes to steal. Look for the people in expensive clothing, and generally a pack full of blessed rares. AMONG their rares, you can find these unblessed.

Pot of Wax (75k) - Stolen too many of these to count.
Zero <? Goobat Sash (?) - First rare ever stolen, dye tub sash.
Hybrid Warrior/Princess (100-200k) - Many unblessed exist, may have to offer and steal.
Banksitter clothing (10-30k) - Everyone has this, super easy steal
Rambo Clothing - (100-300k?) - Stolen two of these

Those are the basic rares I look for. Learn to identify them quickly, and be sure to run. People by the river are very susceptible, and generally have a few pots of wax.

Delucia Pond - Get a factioneer's wand on last target, and when he runs out, do a running steal and don't stop. Gotten thousands of charges.

Those are my main spots.

Secrets:

The WTFHAX?!?!?! LOOT:
This will allow you to loot an item, die, and keep it.
You must be within seven tiles of an NPC.
If you are not, but know guards will be called, GET AN ESCORT.
Loot the item (Die)
Ressurect, and it will be in your pack.
Watch out for RKers.

Tribal Berries:
These are a limitless steal. Sell your berries for 5k each, and just steal them back (works best at delucia) and have the bank/beetle steal up. This one has made me millions. Its quick cash, and everyone wants berries. Watch for NPCs.

INSTA HIDE:

This one is relatively unknown, but nonetheless useful. Get your stolen item on last target, and get your stealing cursor up. Wait ten seconds, then run, hit last target, and immediately hit your hiding macro. When you see a reveal spell go off, RUN QUICKLY. You will have plenty of time to run off screen before your opponent can move.

Oh, one rule. If you use this guide, you must UNTRAP every pouch you see. And when you untrap them, you must have a macro that says *You notice (your thief's name) untrapping your pouches*

And ONE LAST EXTRA SPECIAL BONUS.

THE COVER:

Can be done with footstools, globes, boxes, crates, and a few other items. Make a razor macro of.

Drop Stool (relative to opponents left side)
Pause .25
Drop Stool (relative to opponents back side)
Pause .25
Drop Stool (relative to opponents right side)
Pause .25
Drop Stool (relative to where your standing)

THEN POP THEIR POUCHES.

I hope you all found this guide useful, and it may be my last gift to the community.

Well, at least you didn't cover everything. In fact, there's a lot you left out, so it's all good.

edit - are you the old Galad, back on OSI years ago? If I'm remembering this correctly, the one who made Looter's Inc. so popular?

Hi
I liked it
And, I have 2 questions...

You said that you have to use last target to steal fast. But first, must I target the items that I want to steal in the person's bag?

And the other question is, what can I do with this drop stool?
I didnt understand....

Question 1: Yes, thats what the useskill anatomy is for. Use anatomy on the item, and it sets it to last target. This is why this is an ADVANCED guide. Basic thievery is in the other guide.

Question 2: The stools will usually trap a person in place for anywhere from 1-7 seconds. Plenty of time to open there pack and get an item on last target. Also it pisses people off, which I love.

Oh, but in the macro of stool, how will I target an item in the player's bag?

Open their pack while they are figuring a way to get out of the trap, and quite possibly typing to you. Its happen loads of times for me. Got away with a gold runic hammer once because the guy couldn't bank + a perfect steal.

This trap you mean is the one to get out of paralyze?
But the problem, is that when you want to steal from someone that is running, its difficult to keep it opened...like when you are trrying to steal a pk....
