Blacksmithy should be short spears from 50-95 and plate gorgets to gm. It is extremely ingot efficient. The method you have posted would eat up tons of ingots.

Very true.....short spears use 6 ingots and plate gorgets use 10. When you look at it, skillgain vs difficulty level, your way will eat up more ingots. The easier it is to make an item is not always the most efficient. Thanks for your input though.

I've made smiths both ways here. When I did it the old school OSI style like you have here it used up about 18k ingots. When I did it the hybrid way with short spears and gorgets at 95 it took 13k ingots. I did it both ways more than one time on fresh chars.

I just checked and blacksmith hammers require 4 ingots. Normal hammers only require 1 ingot each. You can also sell them for 14gp to any tinker so you actually don't lose money on training :P
