u7 roleplayers

Well, I've yet to see any roleplayers except those who roleplay orcs, pirates and of course everyone on the shard that roleplays a scumbag scamming mugger, and I saw some guy roleplaying Jesus, anyway besides those roleplayers and I do enjoy the pirates and orcs, but specifically I would like to know if anyone roleplays as if the Britannia they are in in any way shape or form is connected to the Britannia of u7, I know uo was meant to take place between u3 and u4 or some bs, I'm not concerned with what is supposed to be what as there is no story in the game period, so players have always been forced to put in their own story, this is a pvp shard and without pks there is no fun, so I can't stand those non-pk shards that specialize in roleplaying, so about u7, yeah I'm a u7 nerd, I wouldn't mind joining or starting a guild that has a general knowledge of u7, I consider my main character to be a refugee from Serpent Isle, maybe he was once from Britannia but it has changed a great deal since when he left, access to Serpent Isle is nonexistant but I still consider myself a Serpent Islander, if this shard were to take place in Serpent Isle, the mages of Moonshade would obviously be the dominating faction, as magery is the number one skill, specifically my character would have been on the council of mages in Moonshade and due to some accident I ended up in this dreaded place, where the Britannia I knew is now gone, the avatar has not been seen for ages, as well as Lord British, even Blackthorn is long gone, so order is as chaotic as chaos, the 8 virtues are meaningless words and symbols, long forgotten, the world devoid of the virtues held by British and the Avatar, most have forgotten even the existence of those two honorable leaders, such seems to be the case whether this is roleplayed or not.

Re: u7 roleplayers

Fill you in on the u7 mythology? Well... Gargoyles are intelligent creatures, they have their own city, some are accepted into human cities as citizens, some are not, their pretty much a 2nd class race, their not just mindless monsters as portrayed in UO, thnx for asking, as for the guy above who can't stand bad punctuation, well I was there when LB died, took a screenshot 1 second before he died and a few mins before he died LB admitted he was a poor speller, punctuation isn't everything... in u7 there was the brotherhood, and I've seen tons of 'the brotherhood' guilds, in u7 the brotherhood was sorta like scientology, it was a messed up church cult, the leader was the guardian, the most evil being in the land, the mythology goes so far I can't really mention it all, but I did like the furry critters in yew forest, too bad they don't exist in UO, u7 was so complex, npcs had daily schedules, they went to work and at night went home and went to sleep, you could haggle prices with them, in the swamps you got poisoned just by walking on the swamps without swamp boots, in the icelands you needed warm clothes or you could freeze to death, such things were never recreated in UO, too bad, it's those tiny things that made u7 great... the mythology... well, there's Dupre, Shamino, Iolo, the avatar's most trusted companions, and not in a gay way, they fought with the avatar and could be found usually at the bar. The storyline... in my opinion was good enough to be adapted into a screenplay, but I'm not good at telling it, there are plenty of webpages out there that explain it though, for those unaware, uo is the online adaptation of ultima 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,7 part 2,8,9... that many ultimas have existed... 8 before uo existed, the series was ripped off by final fantasy, ever hear of it? while final fantasy pushed it's games towards consoles and towards turn based, the ultima series pushed it's games towards computers and being real time non-turn based, one being mindless, one being much better.

Re: u7 roleplayers

I didn't play Serpents Isle. I was a Black Gate nut, though. I believe the do-gooder-except-evil-in-disguise cult was called the Fellowship, at least that was its name in U7. The one led by Batlin, right? Man U7 was probably the most intelligent RPG I ever played, the thing fascinated me incredibly. I don't believe there's any importance to the exact theme setting of UO because nobody cares, most heavyweight or dedicated roleplayers never actually knew or cared about the Ultima background and it didn't prevent those who did know it from developing non canon stuff. Then again what is canon in a world like that of Ultima, where moongates are doors between all kinds of realities and worlds so that technically anything could find its way into Britannia or elsewhere, and it sure did before? Thats another question altogether.

It's an interesting idea you're talking about but it's the kind of new initiative that unless started and maintained by yourself with dedication will not suddenly pop up because people are typically more inclined to come up with franchise templates such as pirates - undead - orc - savage - guard corps, or maybe vampire and some other stuff. Usually it doesn't require much imagination and leans on game systems that are easily imported from wherever and provides a good excuse for idle in-character chat or rppvp battles.

Lack of easy access documentation (videos and all the modern stuff) and "sensation" to such a background also makes it difficult for the kids and average players to grasp.

That being said, you can definitely RP it, document your RP on some kind of blog or webpage, and if it's interesting I'm sure it can help people connect and get into it at least to extents.

Yeah the fellowship my bad, I haven't played u7 for some time, I loved the black gate, since serpent isle is technichally part 2, u7 is my fav game of all time, RG could have called serpent isle ultima 8, but didn't because he promised his fans quality, he promised he would never make a sequel using the same game engine twice, it's that type of quality that the Ultima universe was made of, such quality doesn't exist in the game industry today...

Thanks for the advice, about making a blog and documenting it, I personally never read any d&d stuff, never read more than a few pages of the hobbit or narnia, so I don't read much fantasy, but the lore in ultima 7 is deep, I guess it's never been published in it's entirety on the internet, that in and of itself would be quite a task but maybe I will attempt to do this, I don't think there's much interest in the uo community, but they don't know or care about RG, the guy who coined the term MMORPG, even hybrid, they think they beat osi's record, the 'we beat osi' shirts, the 'how do you like them apples osi' apples, I was there when the mmorpg record was broken, I was lagged and could move 1 step every 1 minute if I was lucky, it was in the middle of the beta test in 1997 and I was in trinsic, I remember GreenEvil from the f-ckheads was there, anyway, the record was 12,000 + people online at the same time, that record hasn't even been close on hybrid, RG coined the term MMORPG because he is the father of the MMORPG, there were online rpg's before UO but no MMORPGs, the realm, diablo 1, meridean 59, those games were corpgs or something smaller than massive.

I'll make the blog and copy the text, I have all the manuals and even the cluebooks... I'm sure EA won't care since the games are free on abandonia anyway.

Man it's always a pleasure to run into a passionate veteran completely at random like this. The big thing when it comes to all that old stuff, and especially that Ultima stuff, if we end up passionate enough to start putting up content on the internet, we gotta know it's not exactly a mainstream endeavour that's gonna meet a large audience... Yet it's a labour of love, but then again the internet in the late 90's was essentially about that. Gratuitous undertakings and frantic information sharing, everyone building its little sandcastle in his little sandbox on some corner. UO itself was exactly that anyway, and the magic came largely because of that, it was teeming with all those different visions interweaving and being shared. If you decide to do something with all that data, I sure wouldn't mind dropping by and giving a little hand now and then if you'd like cause the Ultima lore is just that classic and not only in the process of being forgotten, but yeah there isn't really been any successor material, just half baked fantasy video games with no depth, or complete rip-offs such as the Warcraft "universe".

Ultima's lore was deep also because it didnt waste a huge amount of time dealing with noenxistent fantasy races that were just spin-offs of traditional fantasy archetypes of nonsense pointless inventions (star wars type aliens to an extent), so the story and history could actually focus on some fun and deeper stuff. I mean there's a philosophical coherence to the virtue system that beats all those so-called mythologies and pantheons to fantasy, and the stuff has a deep meaning that can be considered and pondered (which most of the time roleplayers completely miss, not to mention the actual UO virtue system on prod shards that had 0 to do with the actual Ultima virtues in any way whatsoever). But anyways, I'm rambling.

<-- another huge fan of the old Ultima games, especially Ultima 7.

Which other game has such a rich history containing ballads such as these? (taken from books in Ultima 7 part 2)

DRINKING SONGS DUPRE TAUGHT ME
VOLUME ONE - MAIDS IN TRADES

Come all of ye trades and ye tradesmen,
and let ye be wise that are fools.
But remember each day that your trade would decay
if a maid did not look to your tools.
The blacksmith, the smokey old blacksmith,
'tis known as a jolly old fellow.
But his iron would burn old, and his fire would grow cold,
If a maid did not blow up the bellows.
And then there's the candlestick maker,
he works up the tallow so quick.
But his craft would be marred, and the works not get hard,
If a maid did not hold up the wick.
The ploughman, the jolly old ploughman,
he follows the plow in the silt.
But 'tis ne'er a clod turned, if a maid had not learned him,
To drive the blade up to the hilt.
The brewer, the jolly old brewer,
he maketh a very fine ale.
But his brew would be waste, if there's no maid to taste,
And make sure that it doesn't grow stale.
So come all ye journeymen, craftsmen,
and all that are apprenticed to trade.
For 'tis ne'er a screw or a nut would be turned,
If it weren't for the help of a maid!

DRINKING SONGS DUPRE TAUGHT ME
VOLUME TWO - ROLL THY LEG OVER

If all the young ladies were little white rabbits,
I'd be a hare, and teach them bad habits!

Refrain:
Roll thy leg over, roll thy leg over,
Roll thy leg over the man in the moon.

If all the young ladies were bricks in a pile,
I'd be a mason and lay them in style!
If all the young ladies were cocks in the hay,
I'd be a hen, and I'd have a good lay.
If all the young ladies were bats in a steeple,
and I were a bat, there'd be more bats than people.
If all the young ladies were bells in a tower,
and I were a clapper, I'd ring every hour!
If all the young ladies were doors of stout wood,
and I were a knocker, I'd bang them up good!
If all the young ladies were stones in a mill,
and I were some grain between them, I'd spill...
If all the young ladies were coconuts sweet,
I'd suck out their juices and chew on their meat.
If all the young ladies were birds in their nests,
I'd be an egg and lie under their breasts.
