Sallos - Public Test

What is Sallos?
Over the past weeks I've been working on a side project named Sallos. At its heart, Sallos is a client-server architecture designed to support the play of many different games, as well as a centralized area for text chat and, eventually, voice chat.

The design is comparable to that of Pogo, the MSN Gaming Zone, or Yahoo Games. The primary conceptual difference, however, is that Sallos is not built over the web, but instead as a desktop application.

How do I get Sallos?
You may download Sallos from this URL.

If you're able to run my Ultima client (KUOC) then you should have no trouble running Sallos. Otherwise, you must first ensure you have the .NET Framework, DirectX 9, and the Managed DirectX Libraries.

How do I set up an account?
Sallos requires that you register an account before playing. Once Sallos has started, you will be prompted for a username and password. Press the 'create' button. You will be taken to a form requesting a nickname, username, password, and email address. All passwords are encrypted and your email address will never be given out. Once entered, simply press 'okay' and your account will be created. If you use free web-based email services, such as hotmail, make sure your inbox is not full before you do this. The activation email should arrive instantly, but if it doesn't--and you're using one of these free services--check your spam box.

Once you've received your activation code, log in to the account in Sallos. You will be prompted for the activation code. Once entered successfully you may begin playing.

What games does Sallos have?
Currently, as Sallos is still in its infancy, only one game is implemented. This game is a take on the original TetriNET with some additional features.

TetriNET
TetriNET is a multiplayer version of Tetris where each player (up to 6 per game) can influence (harm, or help) the fields of other players (or themselves).

Play starts out as a normal game of Tetris. You see a small version of each opponents' fields. For every line you make, a special token will appear randomly in your field. You "pick up" these tokens by completing a line that contains them.

Tokens
There are a number of different token types. Their symbols, names, and functions are listed below. To use a token on someone, press the number associated with that player (indicated at the top of their field).

Controls
Standard Tetris controls:
  • Up - turns piece
  • Down - drops piece
  • Left - moves piece left
  • Right - moves piece right
  • Space - accelerates piece downward
  • 1..6 - targets specified player with your current token
  • Delete, d - removes your current token from your inventory

Ranks
Every player in Sallos is assigned a rank, which is an indication of how experienced that player is in a particular game. Over time, your rank will increase as you play. The entire set of ranks is listed below.

Its a great time waster, and i cant wait for it to evolve into a full fledged program.
For new players, dont be afraid of ranks. They are kinda meaningless at this point untill alot more players come on. Heres another screenshot of me owning krrios

If you're getting an error, make sure you have all the requirements listed near the top.

Yeah, the ranking system is very similar to that of Gunbound. One of my goals is to eventually emulate Gunbound in the Sallos environment, only while using good design principles to eliminate the rampant cheating seen in Gunbound today.

Thanks! I do plan to make the controlls fully customizable. That should happen within the next couple of patches. Also, soon spectator modes will be added, so that you may view other games or sit out of your current game.

This is fucking cool. Great job man, I can't wait for the patches.
