why do taskbar popups freeze my uo?

every time i get a little popup from anti-vrius update or someone siging in to msn or something my uo freezes? anyone guess as to why? thx

Are you running windowed mode?
What exactly happens when it freezes? It completely freezes, you have to shut it down, or freezes for a few seconds while the pop-up lasts?
