Tournament System

We've recently implemented a system for handling tournaments. Here's a walkthrough:

  • Finding the tournamemt
The first step in joining a tournament is simply to get there. This can be done by entering one of the moongates that are placed at various town centers, banks, and shrines when an event starts.

  • Signing up
Once you're there you will need to sign up. This can be done by approaching the tournament registrar and double-clicking the book on the counter.

Using this book will open the signup gump allowing you to view the complete settings and rules before joining.

    • Settings
      Participants
In this case, the tournament is 2v2v2v2. That is to say, it's a tournament grouping 4 teams of 2 players against eachother. You can see this at the top line: "2v2v2v2 Tournament Signup".

      Grouping
This setting determines how participants are grouped against eachother. It can be one of three options:
      • High vs Low: the highest ranked players are pitted against the lowest ranked players. This option quickly eliminates inexperienced players.
      • Closest opponent: groups opponents to others of similar experience
      • Random: opponents are grouped randomly

      Tiebreaker
This setting determines how ties (a match without winner after 15 minutes) are handled. It can be one of five options:
      • Random: a random participant is advanced
      • Highest: the most experienced participant is advanced
      • Lowest: the least experienced participant is advanced
      • Full advancement: all participants are advanced
      • Full elimination: all participants are eliminated

      Sudden Death
This setting shows the time until "sudden death" starts, or "Off" if sudden death is disabled. When sudden death is activated it becomes impossible to cast any beneficial spells.

    • Rules
Rule enforcement is done in the same manner as the dueling system. If you're unfamiliar with this, check it's walkthrough in the FAQ section.

      Ruleset
This shows the base ruleset. Consult the dueling system FAQ for the complete ruleset definitions.

      Flavors
Flavors are optional rules that can be applied to a ruleset. If any flavors are enabled they will be listed here. Again, check the FAQ for a complete definition.

      Modifications
This section lists any explicit modifications that have been made against the base ruleset and flavors. In this case, two rules were changed: magical weapons and magical armor. These settings are unchecked, which means they are not allowed.

Do not be confused: just because a rule is listed under modifications does not mean it's allowed. Be sure to look at both the name and checkmark. The rule is only allowed if it's checked.

    • Your Team
This section is, of course, available only in team fights. When signing up in these tournaments you must declare your team. Simply click on the button for an empty slot and target your desired partner. They will get a confirmation gump showing them all of the settings and rules and allowing them to confirm, reject, or ignore your offer.

Once you've gone over all the rules and (if applicable) declared your team, then simply press okay. You will have joined the tournament.

  • Tournament Information
You may view live information about a tournament by double-clicking the "tournament bracket" sheet next to the registrar:

Doing so will present you with a sheet listing three sections:
    • Rules

This page lists settings and rules in the same format as when signing up, just in case you need to consult the rules after joining.

    • Participants

This page lists the names of every participant that has signed up. It can be used as a general overview, or to get more detailed information. Clicking on a participant to expand it:

This page links every player in the team (or just one player in the case of singles tournaments), their number of free advances, and a log of each match. You can view extended information about a player by clicking the appropriate button:

    • Rounds

This page lists every round in the tournament. Clicking on a round will expand it:

You are presented then with a list of every match of that round. To quickly get a sense of how things have progressed, match titles are color-coded. Completed matches will be drawn in parts: participants are drawn in green if they won or red if not. Matches that are in progress are displayed in a teal color. Matches still pending are drawn in black.

It is also possible to view a match seperately by clicking on the appropriate arrow:

From there you can branch into participant information, which is described above.

After sudden death is initiated, can bandaids still be used? Seems a little unfair if only beneficial spells become useless.
