The Pit: A Game of Death

Sintoo

Sorceror
A note of "warning"
There are no gold to be made here nor any items to gain from partaking that will further advance your riches on this shard.
This is purely for recreational fun where joy is it's own reward.
If that does not bother you keep on reading...
Thank you for your time.
Are you prepared to enter...
Far from the well lit and respectable streets of the business quarters, down dwindling street corners to the lesser visited establishments the ringing sound of metal upon metal can be heard. a roaring beast of a houndred voices echoes through the surrounding
ramshackled buildings.
This is THE PIT....
Pit Fights is a remnant of an old world and ancient times.
An old bloody game of gladitorial combat when warriors fought
eachother at ceremonial battles to honour the War Goddess of Cailleach.
These days it's more about entertainment and profits than honour. Pit fights has for a long time been outlawed in the regions of Nordheim.
This does however not stop the more unsavory citizens of the free-state to see the lucrative business opportunities this brutal sport offers.
Many are those who stand to gain from the sports continued presence, slavers, ex soldiers and mercenaries that know no other way than the sword find themselves in these establishments.
Bribes to local authorities and the crowds lust for carnage ensures the continuation of these games.
held in secret across the land amongst it’s tavern cellars and barns.
.........................................................................
WHAT IS THE PIT?
The Pit is a roleplaying guild-game within the game of Ultima Online.
Here you can create a Pit Fighter and fight in vicious gladitorial like bouts
against other players Pit Fighters.
As you progress and win fights you earn experience and silver.
With these resources you can level up your Pit Fighter and buy better equipment
to help you in your future fights.
And perhaps should you live long enough you may hold the title of Champion.
......................................................................
HOW TO JOIN
STEP ONE: First and foremost what you must do is read through this thread and familiar yourself with what the game is about.
STEP TWO: Go to THIS THREAD and fill in the template application for your Pit Fighter
...................................................................
STEP THREE
CREATING YOUR PIT FIGHER
When that is done you are ready to begin the creation of your pit fighter
one of the first thing you will have to do is choose a fighter type.

There are a total of four different fighter types.

These being:
  • STRONG
  • AGILE
  • SKILLFULL
  • ORC
Each with their own advantages and disadvantages. See above picture for each types starting stats and skills.
You're advised to immediately lock your skills and stats after creating your character to avoid getting stat or skill gains.
Having a higher stat or skill gain than the allowed starting types may cause your pit fighter not to be accepted.

Your skills must be set to viewable on http://my.uogamers.com/
You do this by typing " [publicchar " While in game.
Players that choose to make pit fighter of the Orc type must take short hair as their hairstyle and no facialhair.
Buy a hair dye and dye your hair dark green.

All human fighters start out with:
  • Sandals
  • A kilt
  • A starting weapon of your choosen weapon skill.
(Starting weapons are knife for swordmanship, dagger for fencing, club for mace fighting)

Orc type fighters start with:
  • Fancy shirt
  • Long pants
  • Shoes
These should all be dyed dark green as to portray orcish green skin.
  • A kilt
  • A mask of orcish kin
  • A starting weapon of your choosen weapon skill.
(Starting weapons are knife for swordmanship, dagger for fencing, club for mace fighting)

.............................................................................
STEP FOUR
After your Pit Fighters character description have been approved you will be contacted
and we will guild you.
You are now a Pit Fighter
May you die as you have lived!

.........................................................................
RANKS

Slave
This is what you start out as in the pit.
You're the lowest of the low. Not expected to live through the day
you wait in your cell to prove yourself...or to die in the pit's bloodsoaked dirt.

None of your skills may exceed 60
None of your stats may exceed 60

Brawler - 5 Wins
So you may have won a few fights and gained some interest from the crowd.
But don't fool yourself. You're a blunt sword in need of sharpening. Hone your skills and you may yet become a true pit fighter.

You may now partake and challenge opponents in scar and mutilation fights.
None of your skills may exceed 70
None of your stats may exceed 65

Pit Fighter - 15 Wins. Must have partaken in atleast 1 Scar fight.

None of your skills may exceed 80
None of your stats may exceed 85

Veteran Pit Fighter - 25 Wins. Must have partaken in atleast 3 Scar fight and 1 Mutiliation fight.

Skill restriction none.
Stat restriction none.

FIGHTS

Basic Fight
Rank Restriction: None
A one versus one fight.

You fight versus your opponent in the pit and wether Win or loose you collect your given experience and coins.

Win: +50 Exp +50 Silver
Loose: +25 Exp +25 Silver

Scar fight
Rank Restriction: Brawler
A one versus one fight.

If you loose the opponent may give you a scar, if you win you may give your opponent a scar.
This scar is to be added in your characters description alongside with information of the pit fighter
who caused it.
For example: Pit fighter A has won against pit fighter B. Pit fighter A emotes
*Slashes pit fighter B in a wide arc across the torso opening a wound from shoulder to the lower ribcage*
after the match is finished. Pit fighter B adds in his character description "Bears a large scar across his torso from a match with pit fighter A".

Win: +100 Exp +75 Silver
Loose: +50 Exp +30 Silver

Mutilation fight
Rank Restriction: Brawler
A one versus one fight.

Should you loose the opponent may remove an arm or leg off your fighter.
Should you win you may remove an arm or leg of their fighter.
Resulting in: If an arm is removed the fighter may not use any twohanded weapons or use a shield in future fights.
If a leg is removed the fighter can never run in any future matches (only walking is allowed. You are hereby a one legged fighter). Breaking any of these in future matches will result in death wether winning or loosing.
Loosing two mutilation matches may end in a decapitation.
Meaning if an opponent should remove an arm or leg if one of these has already been removed in a previous fight
the fighter will be beheaded instead and death will follow and your character is to be deleted.

Win: +200 Exp +125 Silver
Loose: +100 Exp +75 Silver

Last Man Standing
Rank Restriction: Pit Fighter

Atleast 4 pit fighters must fight to start a Last Man Standing fight.

Win: +50 Exp +300 Silver
Loose: +50 Exp +50 Silver

Fight to the Death
Rank Restriction: Pit Fighter
A one versus one fight.

If you should loose you don't have to worry about anything....ever again.
If you loose, your character is dead and should be deleted.
A fighter who is on a 3 fights loosing streak may not initiate or partake in a fight to the death.

Win: +400 Exp +200 Silver
Loose: ... hopefully you died giving the crowd a good show.

Fight Rules
A fighter may only fight in:
  • 3 basic fights a week
  • 1 Special fight a week. (Special fight means a scar/mutilation/last man standing/death fight)
  • 4 Losses in a row means death (Character deletion)
......................................................................
THE MARKET
Should you manage to live long enough to accumulate some wealth
you may want to visit the market to spend some silver coins to help you stay alive in the pit.
Winning fights in The Pit earns you the currency of Nordheim silver.
This does not mean the silver coins in the game of Ultima Online itself.
It's a special out of game currency that allows you to buy better equipment
for your fighter.

THE TRAINING GROUNDS

If you expect to survive in The Pit you must become stronger and faster than your opponent.
More skilled with a blade than they and that comes from rigorous training.
The training ground is just that place to hone your skills.
Here you can trade the experience you earn from your fights
to become more efficient in your skills and learn new ones.
As well as train your physique for the upcoming fights.

Skill training

200 Exp = +10 Skill points in a single skill of your choosing.
These points can only be used in skills that you have already learned.
When trading experience for skill points you can only put them in one of your skills.
You may not divide them amongst several skills.

500 Exp = Learn a new skill. New skills start out at 30 Skill points.
Available skills to train in and learn are the following:
  • Macing
  • Swordmanship
  • Fencing
  • Parrying
  • Anatomy
  • Tactics
  • Healing
  • Lumberjacking
  • Wrestling
Stat Training

400 Exp = +5 Stat points in a single stat of your choosing.
When trading experience for stat points you can only put them in one of your stats.
You may not divide them amongst several stats.

Armour Training
Before your fighter can make use of the armour they've bought in the market they must learn to properly wield it to make the most out of it.

  • Head slot 100 Exp to unlock.
  • Neck slot 50 Exp to unlock.
  • Torso slot 500 Exp to unlock.
  • Arms slot 200 Exp to unlock.

Aye come join us and make yourself a pit fighter.
Let your blade taste blood & the air stifle with death!

Sounds cool man! Good to see some creative players exerting themselves for the betterment of the shard.

Only thing I'm concerned about is how do you validate that a player's skills are at the levels that they should be?
Easier to verify general stat levels, not so easy (or impossible) to verify skill levels.

A sort of book keeping on all gains a pit fighter has made will be recorded over at This thread.
As for the skills themselves all pit fighter's must show their character as a public char on MyUOGamer.

Of course we can't account for the small number of random skill points given out at character creation nor am I going to throw
down the law for a few 0.1 points that may exceed the allowed values for a fighter if they remain within reason of what your fighter should have.

As with all thing's at the end it will come down to players own attitudes if they want to play the game fair or exploit every possibility they can find.
All I'm hoping for is to bring a new experience to player's an rekindle some excitement for the game that doesn't revolve around the usual grind. Perhaps be able to enjoy the game myself when time allows it and I can find a reliable third part to maintain some aspects of the game and witness my fights.

Sintoo

Sorceror
Glad you like the idea and hope that you'll find participating a good experience.
Looking forward to see what kind of fighters you will come up with and I'll see you in the pit!

Sintoo

The Pit still awaits more "willing" combatants.
The cells stands empty of fresh blood.

Make your fighter today, and we'll see if we can't get some
entertainment for the masses made.

Yeah the forum change did a little number on the thread.
I'll try and fix it as soon as possible.

Meanwhile here's the sign up roster: SIGN UP HERE

I'm hoping to get four active fighters before we actually "go live"

Sintoo

Sorceror
The threads should all be working now again in proper order.
If you find something that's off do let me know.

If we can get two more fighters confirmed I was hoping we can have a
fight night on wednesday.

Sintoo

Sorceror
Glad to have you aboard!

I'm very excited to see where this leads down the road.
And how it will play out, what need's to be fixed and tweaked, and the expansions that awaits.

Certain that the first fight's will be very random-esque until players can start upgrading
and taking differen't path's with their fighters.

Let there be blood!
The Pit awaits!
