Now onto the important stuff!

I. Birth!

The first thing you have to decide on is who your character will be.

Now the appearance creation is easy, just pick a name, and what your character will look like! (All appearance options other than Skin color can be changed in the future if you desire)

See this guide for a description of skills and how to train them:

http://www.uogamers.com/forum/skills-templates/21142-comprehensive-guide-skills-skill-gain.html

II. New ground

Now that your in the game, your probably wondering where to go!

Using Your UO Map will help a lot in finding the moongate (Look at the top of your screen, and click map, if yours is not displayed already, and dbl click your map to enlarge it)

Now that your at Yew Moongate, step into the magic blue portal and check the box at the bottom that says Delucia!

Welcome to Del Pond, you are now in a populated location!

Run West from this area and go to town.

III. Baby Steps

Welcome to Delucia!

First go to the Animal Tamers shop which should be the first shop on the left upon entrance to the town. Once inside Single click the Animal trainer and select "Buy" Scroll down until you find "A Horse" and dbl click it then accept the trade.

To mount your new horse double click it, now you have went from total newb to sexy noob with a horse! Also your not so dam slow now.

Now heres where your first few desisions come in, how to make your first bit of gold!

You can do a few different things

A. Kill Bulls, collect leather & meat, then sell them in bulk to other players. This will also help you train at the same time.

B. Collect cotton and sell to the tailor. To gather cotton double click it on the ground then pull the bail to your pack, and sell it to the Tailor inside the Shop to the left of the Cotton fields.

C. Beg players, a few kind souls will help you out with some armor, weps, and some gold, just small basic things. You may also recieve negative attention though and be shit talked (get used to this no matter how good you get it never stops)

D. Chop wood with and Axe and sell in bulk to players. To chop wood, double click and axe then select a tree, and your character will do the rest, then continue this on the same tree until no wood is left, then move to the next tree.

E. Go into the newbie dungeon and kill monsters, this method will also help you train in a pk safe environment.

***Note*** When selling resources in bulk make sure you put the items in a commodity deed sold by the banker, this makes the items lighter and tradable.

IV. Suiting Up

Congratulations you now have some money in your pocket!

Don't forget to keep your gold safe by storing it in the bank. To access your bank step closely to the Bank or the Banker and Proclaim out loud "Bank" and a box should open, if it doesn't move closer to the Bank and try again. Place your gold in the box!

Now your going to have to take some gold out so you can go buy you some items!

Depending on your template will determine what you buy but here are some pretty basic essentials.

Armor (Leather is best for mages, Studded Leather is best for dexxers) - Found at the blacksmith shop.

Bandages (if a healer) - Found at the healer shop (you can also ressurect from the dead here).

Reagents (if a mage) - Found at the mage shop.

Food - Found at the Provisioner's Shop.

Weapons (if a dexxer) - Found at the Blacksmith shop.

Potions - Found at the mage shop (the main ones are Heals, & Cures)

At the end of all this buying your character should look something like this. Not exactly like this but, a full suit of armor, a horse, some stock, etc.

V. Training

Welcome to the fun part!

First open up your skills, click the tab to the right of your paperdoll that says "Skills". Now lock all of the skills except the ones you plan on using, remember you can only have 700 points worth of skills, you can spend them however you want but the most effective way is to have 7 skills that are 100 points each.

The best place to train is the newbie dungeon, so go there hop in and kill shit until your done training. Don't forget to grab up as much gold as you can, also gather jewels because they can be sold for high prices to jewelers!!!!

Try to get as much training as possible done in the dungeon because after you have trained up to a certain point you will no longer be aloud to go into the dungeon.

VI. From Noob to Player!

Now if you haven't already, try to make some friends, its the best way to get better at this game. Also try to read other guides here on the forums.

Your character by this time should almost be done or at least have something accomplished that you can use. So go in search of better monsters, since your already in Delucia you could start in Delucia Cave, or if you dont want to hunt you could do escorts.

Image of an Escort

Escorts are easy, just accept them, then beg for a gate to wherever they need to go, bam 1,000gp. Or just walk them there, either way, 1,000gp

The point is that you need to find a way to start making money, as much as you can, the more the merrier.

VII. Advancing

Start spending some of them GP's!!!

First buy a house, and dont forget to mark a rune!!!

To get a house you have to either buy one from a player or place one yourself.

To place one yourself you need a house placement tool which can be bought from a Real Estate Agent in the Carpenter shop (this is not found in Delucia). To use the tool double click it, select a house size, then put the plot on a location that will allow it. The area needs to be clear of items, trees, rocks, etc and it needs to be at least 7 tiles by 7 tiles (7x7) and 1 tile away from all surrounding landscape such as trees.

Now so you dont get scammed here are the prices for small houses from players:

Any 7x7 is around 100,000gp unless the location is outstanding, but you should be able to find one for like 50-70k. And dont fall for the whole "Oh i have your house now" scam. Untill the trade window opens and you click the little blue diamond there is no one that anyone can have your house, no script, hack, or bullshit can change that.

Once you got a house, slap some walls up, and start filling it up with all your lovely loot :)

http://www.uogamers.com/forum/miscellaneous/94362-corrados-guide-house-placement-ownership.html

House Commands:

I wish to place a trash barrel - Places a trash-barrel under your feet

I wish to secure this - Secures a selected box, letting you change access levels, and store unlimited weight.

I wish to lock this down - Locks down a selected item or box

VIII. Defining Yourself - The Final Chapter

Now Your pretty much set but other than training more characters you may think your out of stuff to do!!!!

But your oh so wrong......

You can keep doing the monster bashing thing, best to use a tamer for this. It will continuously earn you gold and its pretty fun.

You can go into crafting, this is great for players with a lot of lag, or a lot of patience. But it can REALLY pay off if you do it right.

You can buy/sell but you have to have like 100k to start doing this, basically you buy things cheap, and sell em expensive.

You could also be a farmer, this means you gather resources and sell them for profit. Ingots, Leather, Bottles, Regs, etc

Now those are money options, now heres my favorite set of professions

PVP THE WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE!!!

You can be a PK/Red and crawl dungeons killing tamers, miners, dexers, other pks, etc. Or just wait for prey at a moongate or some other hotspot.

You can be a factioner, and fight in large battle with some of the best players. This is a really intense style of pvp, which also inputs a few more pvp factors. This is really more for advanced players or a guild.

You can be Chaos/Order, this probably gives you the lowest amount of pvp, but that doesnt mean it isnt fun, theyre small, tactical, and amusing battles. This is specifically for guilds.

You can war other guilds, and fight just them and random pks of course. This can provide huge fights, small fights, medium fights, it all depends on the size of the guilds warring.

Finally you can just run around on a blue and fight pks & criminals. This actually quite interesting, sometimes you find no fights, sometimes you find huge fights, its all really random. The upside is that you have a much lower chance of dying than many of the other options, because you have safe zones you can hide in, and if you have no counts you can just recall/gate out.

Theres other methods of killing such as deathgating, and luring but its best to learn about these yourself :)

Oh and I forgot to mention theiving which is a really fun template, and can be valuable occasionally. It can provide PvP and it can Provide Money its an middle type of class, depending on what type of theif you are depends what category your placed. Pure theif would be a money making template, and a battle theif would be a pvp template, and a tamer theif would be a stupid template :D

So......Who Will YOU Be?

Thanks for your guide. I just started yesterday (registered here for ages and finally found the time to play) and it really helped me.

The only thing I found hard was to sell my leather. People were just going mad at me when I asked in Britain or Delucia at the bank spots if anybody wanted to buy it :D, but fortunately there are other kinds of income anyways.

Well you should really only sell leather or any resource in bulk of 1,000 peices or more. People really have no need for buying like 100 leather hehe. But im glad my guide was helpful :)

I will buy low quantities of resources to help people out. I'll give you real market value for them, not try to use newbies as slaves ;P.

if he wont i will. i buy all normal leather and iron ingots farmed. i pay 7 gp per on both. fair value is between 6-8 so if you have alot say 30k+ i may be willing to pay 8gp per.

Aim:atm1413

very nice guide. im about to start one for how to avoid pks or confront them with tamers. seems a popular problem as well.

Like xenonic, I had this account for a long time but never had the time to play.I started to play 4 hours ago This thread is very helpful. I started in Minoc for mining(well my friend told me to choose it) but red players kill me all the time >=( . Lastly I have a question, you have mentioned a pk-safe zone(newbie dungeon) is there a place in that zone for mining ? Thanks for the help

Um your best bet would probably be to go to Delucia and train on the mountains there (in guard zone), or go to Britain and just mine in the middle of nowhere really. I believe the entire newbie dungeon uses cave tiles so its possible that you can mine there although I'm not certain. Good luck!

Re: The Newbie Guide - Getting Started On UOGamers!

This was a good help to me. It's been many years since I have played UO and it's been pleasant to get back into it. I've been working on my mining, and I do have a question that someone may be able to answer. How hard is it to find a spot to place a house? I'm saving up for a keep, but I'm wondering if there is room for it?

Prophet-

Squire
Re: The Newbie Guide - Getting Started On UOGamers!

It would be pretty much impossible to just find a keep spot, you would have to buy the keep which would cost you roughly 20m. Or IDOC the keep which would still cost you a pretty penny. But they're are plenty of 7x7 spots open, but you might have to look for a while and go to unpopulated areas, like Fire Island, or Trinisic. Best of luck to you!

Re: The Newbie Guide - Getting Started On UOGamers!

What is the best way to get to fire island? I bought a ship and moongated to Magincia. I then sailed around the continent and tried going straight to it from the lower tip of that island but it just brought me back over to just west of Trinsic.

Re: The Newbie Guide - Getting Started On UOGamers!

Thanks for the guide! It's kinda sorta got me going in the right direction. My biggest problem is selling the bull stuff. Despite what the UOGuide says, there don't seem to be any bulls around Delucia. They have ettins and harpies (they hurt all sorts of bad,) sheep goats and cows (never attack a cow that isn't named "a cow" or "ow." The ones with human names, or called "once" seem to be brutally painful. And assholes named Rusty (I died :'C)

Edit: And you mentioned a newbie dungeon. I don't see one anywhere.

Re: The Newbie Guide - Getting Started On UOGamers!

The ones that are renamed are most likely bulls lol.. People tame them (to raise skill) and rename them to keep track of which ones they already tamed.. Bulls are located above the healer mixed in with the sheep. The area almost always has someone there taming them.
