with all the chatter about diablo2/3 it reminded me of this old game I used to play that was kind of a diablo 1 ripoff.

It came out in either 98 or 99...was pretty decent at the time.

post some of your old favorites...

There was this old AD&D game that I played alot...i tried several times to play it through. Several times Id accidentally enter a tapestry and be lost forever, game over. Or, Id make it to this certain part where Im meeting with some...djinn or something in the desert, get fed up because it was clear what I what I had to, so I just killed everyone that was there, thus ruining my game....what the hell was it called...

Game started where you are a gladiator in some...sort of desert city. You roll a team of 4 characters and commence...doing stuff....

found it haha...

anyone recognize this old game? This one is the sequel I think...I'm thinking of shattered lands. Basically the exact same game just a different story.

then of course later on...

SUCH a good game...if you like RTS and building/city sims....this is an amazing mashup. One of my fav games of all time...

I had so much cheese and apples stored up to last a lifetime, but I still couldn't beat that damn campaign...

The key to darklands was having low endurance. With endurance higher than your strength, you tend to get killed before you become unconscious. When unconscious, the enemies that remained on the screen would leave that one alone and go after the other party members.

The year is 14-something, and the place is Germany. You must guide a band of four adventurers, with nothing but noble intentions, along the road to becoming the most famous heroes in the land. It all starts... however you like. In this singular and unwonted game, you're not presented (at the start) with a quest, and you aren't told where to go and what to do. Hell, you're not even suggested what to do! At any time, you can go wherever you want and do whatever you want. If you've ever heard of "railroading" in RPGs, this is the absolute opposite.

And this one honestly, is one the greatest games ive ever played. God I wish they would remake this and stick to the original mold...

Where do I begin? This game was just incredibly solid. It is turn based strategy at its finest, and is a hardddddd damn game. You have a giant city at your disposal. You start out by sending a few thugs out to recruit anything from lawyers, arsonists, weapons experts etc to lowly thugs and accountants.

You go out and buy legit businesses such as bakeries and pawn shops and set up illegal shops behind them like gambling dens, moonshine houses, casinos, speakeasys, brothels (thats right, whore houses), numbers rackets etc and start getting income, and your accountants fix the books to keep the heat off.

Send out thugs to patrol your areas of influence, rough up and extort shop owners and whatnot. Send them on missions to bomb, beat, kill and maim rival mafia's, politcal officials, cops etc. Buy guns, cars etc.

All of your missions and orders that you give your gang are carried out during the day after you hit play in an awesome top down over the city sequence where you can watch every thing that happens, and even take control of your gangsters if they are fucking up or getting ganked.

The daily newspaper reports on all the crime and activity that happend during the turn between you, other mobs, what mobsters/gangsters/thugs died. etc etc etc and a wealth of other info.

The only downside is there is a limited number of turns, 200 or something like that, then the game ends. Game is so in depth and awesome...I always wanted them to remake it and really expand on it...they made a sequel but it sucked balls and was nothing like the original masterpeice.

Surprisingliy this game is actually abandonware now, so if you want to try it out feel free: http://www.mroldgames.com/e107_plugins/old games/gamelisterpc.php?idg=95
you wont be dissapointed. If you want to kill some hours playing a very enjoyable old game...this one doesnt dissapoint :) Even the graphics arent bad to look at.

I THINK there is even a multiplayer option, so if anyone ever wants to give it a go, get with me. I'll be down to try it for sure.

if anybody tries this game and actually BEATS it...PLEASE tell me or take a screenshot or something...of all the time i wasted playing this ages ago, I never actually won a game haha
