GM Blacksmith can't smelt?

This probably super noobish, and I don't know why I never noticed this, but I'm a GM blacksmith, I can smelt iron items, but I tried with dull copper and got the message "you have no idea how to work this metal"....what did I miss?

smelting is a mining thing, not a blacksmithing thing.
