Roofing

In UO, roofing tile sets allow you two form two types of roofing intersections – hips and valleys. Examples of these are shown below. For your roof to look the best, you’ll need to have a one tile overhang between your wall and the edge of your plot. If you put the wall and bottom of the roof on the same tile with no overhang, it will look wrong. Each additional row of roofing tiles need to be placed 1 tile higher. If you want your roof to use edge pieces at the peak, the roof will need to be an odd number of tiles wide. If you do an even width roof, the peak will meet at a point without a decorative ridge piece.

Not all tile sets are able to make both hips and valleys.
Tile Sets 1-6 are able to make only valleys
Tile Sets 7-8 are identical to 1-6, but contain an extra 5 tiles that we have not found an effective use for
Tile Sets 9-14 are able to make only hips
Tile Sets 15-18 are able to make both hips and valleys
Tile Sets 19-20 are identical to set 1-6, but have special pieces for the bottom lip.

Tile sets 1-6 only are able to construct valleys and gables, but not hips. They provide 15 different tiles:
ABCD – Standard slanted sides
EF – Ridges
GHIJ – Valleys
KLMNO – Intersections of valleys and ridges

Tile sets 7-8 are the same as sets 1-6, but with 5 additional tiles. I did not find a use for these tiles. They contain a tile called “surface piece” and edging pieces that seem to indicate the ability to do a hipped roof, but don’t seem to work when you try to use them as such. If you find a use for these pieces, post it.

Tile Sets 9-14 are ceramic and the easiest to construct. They are shown below making an enclosed, hipped roof. The tiles shown as white below are similar to the black and orange but contain a special decorative lip. They are used exclusively for the lowest roof tiles around the base.

Tile Sets 15-16 expand on Tile Sets 1-6 and add the ability to construct a roof that contains both hips and valleys. The first page of these tile sets are set-up identical to sets 1-6. 12 additional tiles are added on the second page of roofing tiles.
PQRS – Hipped intersections
VWXY – Intersections of a ridge and two hips
TUZa – Intersections of a hip and two ridges

_________________________________________________________________________________
Tile Sets 17-18 are the same as 15-16, but are missing the TUZa tile types. They include an extra tile that serves as the peak of a square hipped house when four edges meet. The 2nd page of Tile Sets 17-18 are glitched out and the tile names when you hover over them are not what they actually are. Some of the tiles don’t even have a name and parts of the blank area will display a name when hovered over. The diagram below aligns them with the tiles shown above.

Tile Sets 19-20 contain the same pieces as sets 1-6, but with 4 additional tiles (LA-LD) for a decorative bottom lip.

Do you actually have to have walls up to put a roof up or can I use 4 support posts in the corners to make like a covered porch or pole barn type setup?

Dear MB

Would you mind looking at why the pictures are gone?

I've found this thread to be essential to my ability to build roofing, the missing picture makes it much harder to understand and follow.

It would be tremendously appreciated if you could take the time to fix that.
